Women In Hospitality
An Introduction

Welcome to DiversityInHospitality.com and WomenInHospitality.com— where high-quality hospitality industry employers and job-seekers come together to find each other, create new communities, and build a strong and growing workforce!

We created these two Internet communities primarily to meet a growing demand from hospitality industry employers who were not only looking for more workers, but also seeking to attract more diversity and women job candidates to management positions - and retain them over time. But there were larger issues behind the creation of these sites as well.

The industry employs over 8.8 million people - second only to the US government - and it is estimated that more than 1.6 million new workers will be needed in the coming decade to keep pace with demand. There are too few students studying hospitality at the post-secondary level to sustain this demand, and too many experienced professionals are leaving the industry to pursue other careers.

DiversityInHospitality.com and WomenInHospitality.com are very much about helping to stabilize and grow the hospitality industry workforce, and help build the industry as a whole.

Why are these sites important for employers?

In hospitality, not only is the demand for workers at all levels of the industry growing rapidly. The core demographics of the workforce are changing as well. High-quality employers recognize this, and see the business sense in working toward having a management structure that reflects the workforce as a whole.

These two Internet communities provide employers with access to the only resource available today that is dedicated solely to supporting hospitality employment for women and those who identify as being part of an ethnic or cultural minority. These sites are places where employers can demonstrate their commitment to “do better” in supporting all its employees - both in the workplace, and in their employees’ careers.

Why are these sites important for job-seekers?

While there have been improvements over the years, many women and diversity job-seekers - and employees - in the hospitality industry continue to experience unfair barriers to employment, inequities in compensation, and lack of career-building opportunity and support.

These two Internet sites provide an unprecedented opportunity for job-seekers to find the best opportunities with the highest-quality companies - companies who recognize the importance of linking the quality of service provided to customers with the quality of the hospitality industry job.

These sites also provide job-seekers and employees the opportunity to find kindred spirits in their area of expertise, exchange job leads and “war stories,” converse about great companies to work for, share strategies for overcoming challenges, and so much more!

Be a part of positive change…

As a member of the DiversityInHospitality.com and WomenInHospitality.com community, I hope you will explore and use these resources to make your job more fulfilling, your life less stressful, and your industry more strong.

By learning together and building relationships, I’m confident that we can transform the hospitality industry, and enjoy a brighter - and a more interesting, profitable, and diverse - future!

Sincerely,

eric goodwin
